Suspect Mensah Awagah is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations
The Akatsi District Police Command has launched investigations into a disturbance at Deti, a suburb of Akatsi in the Volta Region, which resulted in a shooting incident that left two persons injured and caused extensive property damage.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, according to a police statement dated May 28, 2026.
The victims, identified as James Kpanda, 44, and Jonathan Kpanda, 30, sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.
A Mercedes-Benz private car, two motorbikes, and a fence wall were also destroyed.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that at about 10:30 am on the day of the incident, some young men, including the two victims, allegedly went to the residence of the suspect, Mensah Awagah, and began pulling down his fence wall.
“Their actions reportedly infuriated the suspect, who allegedly went to his room, retrieved a gun and fired at the group,” the statement said.

According to police, the shooting resulted in injuries to James Kpanda and Jonathan Kpanda, who sustained gunshot wounds to the knee and eye, respectively.
The incident reportedly triggered anger among some youth in the area, who allegedly went on a rampage and set ablaze a Mercedes-Benz private car and two motorbikes parked at the suspect’s residence.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were called to the scene, but the vehicles had already been burnt beyond recognition before their arrival.
“Suspect Mensah Awagah is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, while the injured victims are receiving treatment at the Akatsi District Hospital,” the statement added.
Police further disclosed that a manhunt has been launched for other suspects involved in the disturbance to assist ongoing investigations.
“Further developments would be communicated in due course,” the police noted.
