Accra, Aug. 30, GNA - Two persons who robbed a Fan Milk Depot at Neoplan Station, near Kwame Nkrumah Circle, at gunpoint and made away with an unspecified amount of money and mobile phones were on Tuesday sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment each for robbery.

Abubakar Mohammed and Kabiru Mohammed were also sentenced to 10 years each on the charge of conspiracy and 10 years each for causing unlawful harm.

The sentences were to run concurrently.

Abubakar, a mechanic and Kabiru, a student, pleaded not guilty but the court presided over by Mr Eric Kyei-Baffour found them guilty and convicted them accordingly.

Mr Paul Abarigah, a State Attorney, told the court that the complainants were sales boys and Fan Milk Company vendors.

On May 1, 2009 at about 0530 hours while the sales boys were about to render account, Abubakar entered the Fan Milk Depot and pretended to be buying some Fan Milk products, while Kabiru waited outside.

Mr Abarigah said Abubakar pulled out a pistol and ordered the complainants to lie down while Kabiru pulled out a knife and locked the depot preventing people from entering.

Abubakar then ordered the complainants to bring out all their money and went further to search all drawers at the Depot.

The State Attorney said one Razak, attempted to apprehend Abubakar but he was shot in the thigh by Abubakar.

However, luck ran on the convicts when the alarm was blown.

While the two convicts were escaping Abubakar fired into the air.

The convicts were arrested at different locations at the Neoplan Station and a mobile phone which Abubakar stole from Francis Aseidu, one of the complainants, was found on him and seven cartridges were retrieved.

During interrogation, the convicts admitted the offence saying it was one Sadat, who shot Razak in the thigh.
