Two persons arraigned over fake Goil fuel coupons

Two persons were on Thursday put before an Accra Circuit Court over the supply of 213 fake Goil fuel coupons totalling GH?10,650.00 currently circulating in Accra.

Jonathan Ofoli Quaye a technician and Samuel Osafo Amponsah a supervisor are jointly held on the charges of conspiracy and possessing forged documents.

Amponsah a supervisor with Spintex branch of Goil Service is facing additionally charge of abetment of crime.

The two accused persons have pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mrs Jennifer Myles Ahmed has admitted them to a bail of GH?12,000.00 with two sureties.

They are to reappear on November 26.

David Osei Amankwah, an accomplice is however at large.

Prosecuting Superintendent Faustina Annor Kwoffie said the complainant is the Accountant of Spintex Road Goil Service Station.

Supt Kwoffie said Management of Goil Company Limited has been experiencing the circulation of fake coupons at some of its outlets all over the country, which is draining their financial resources.

According to prosecution it was detected that some of the pump attendants have been assisting perpetrators to distribute the fake fuel coupons by exchanging them with part of their daily cash sales undetected.

As a result of this, prosecution said all managers of Goil Service Stations were informed of the threat and asked them to put in security control measures in curbing the menace.

All staff of Goil Ghana Limited including pump attendants were warned to desist from encouraging the distribution of the fake coupons.

Supt Kwoffie said in August this year, Quaye and Amankwah supplied 114 pieces of the fake fuel coupons in GH?50.00 denominations totalling GH?5,700.00 to Amponsah and collected cash equivalent.

Prosecution said Quaye managed to push through the fake coupons through his daily sales.

On October 10, this year, Quaye and Amankwah again went to supply 99 pieces of the fake coupons totalling GH?4,950 cedis to Amponsah. Quaye was however nabbed through a witness.

In their statements, Quaye claimed Amankwah gave him the coupons but he did not know his whereabouts.

Amponsah admitted receiving the coupons from Quaye but when he (Quaye) detected that they were fake he kept them so he could arrest the culprits.
