Accra, Aug. 12, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra on Thursday remanded into police custody a 25-year-old sales boy, Dennis Tweneboah for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old girl at a drinking spot.
Tweneboah pleaded not guilty to defilement and would re-appear on August 25.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J.K. Anim told the court that victim lived with her aunt at Dome in Accra as well as the accused who lived in the same vicinity.
He said about four month ago, the victim went to purchase sachet water from the accused, who proposed to the victim, but she turned down the proposal.
Prosecution said the following day, the victim went to purchase sachet water and the accused lured her into the inner room of the drinking spot and defiled her.
He said after the act, accused promised to marry her and warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone.
Two weeks after the incident, victim's aunt noticed some unusual symptoms on the victim and therefore escorted her to a nearby clinic.
After going through medical examination, the prosecutor said, it was detected that the victim was four months pregnant.
When victim was quizzed, she mentioned the accused as the one responsible, and the matter was lodged with the Domestic Violence and Victims' Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Madina.
In a related development, the court remanded Simon Kwao, a 25-year- old carpenter for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old Junior High School Student at Adenta.
Kwao pleaded not guilty to defilement.
Chief Inspector Anim said accused was a carpenter, who lived in the same vicinity with victim and her mum.
Prosecution said victim's mother, who is also the complainant, took the accused as a brother and normally left the victim and her brother in the care of the accused.
He said sometime in 2009, the complainant travelled and left the victim and her brother in the care of the accused, and during her absence the accused sneaked into the complainant's room under the pretext of sleeping with the victim and her brother.
Chief Inspector Anim said during the night, the accused defiled the victim and purchased a pair of shoes as a gift for her and warned her not to tell anyone.
He said later the victim developed candidiasis, a veneral disease and was sent to the hospital for examination and it was revealed that the victim had been defiled.
A report was lodged with the DOVVSU and accused was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
