Two remanded in police custody for stealing

Two young men who allegedly conspired and stole an unregistered Haojin motorbike are in the grips of the law.

Francis Arhin alias destiny and Joshua Banteye were reportedly intercepted by the police in Jema on a tip-off.

They were put before the Enchi District Magistrate court on charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing. Their pleas were not taken.

The trial judge, Mr. Eric Baah Boateng, remanded them into police custody to re-appear on April 24, 2019.

Detective Sergeant Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, the prosecutor, told the Court that, the complainant Benard Quaicoe, a farmer, resides at Yiwabra, in the Aowin Municipality.

He said the accused persons also lived in the same vicinity with the complainant.

He said on April 11, 2019, Arhin rented the complainant’s unregistered motorbike at a fee of GH¢10.00 under the pretext of going to Achimfo community.

Banteye who was secretly waiting for Arhin at the outskirt of Yiwabra town joined him and they rode to Jema without the consent of the complainant.

Detective Sgt. Agyare said when the accused persons arrived in Jema they attempted to sale the motorbike for GH¢1,800.00 to some residents in the town.

The complainant after waiting for several hours and there was no sign of Arhin returning his motorbike, became alarmed and started searching for Arhin in the nearby villages but all to no avail.

According to the prosecutor, the police in Jema upon intelligence arrested Arhin and Banteye together with the unregistered motorbike.

The complainant later got to know of the arrest of the two, submitted the documents covering the motorbike to the police for inspection.

Detective Sgt. Agyare informed the Court that during the inspection they detected that the chassis number in the document tallied with that on the unregistered motorbike they had in their custody.
