'Two steps forward, four steps backwards' - Franklin Cudjoe on Sedina's acquittal

The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has expressed disappointment over the acquittal and discharge of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

In a post shared on Facebook on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Cudjoe described the court’s decision as a setback to efforts aimed at recovering state resources and holding public officials accountable.

“ORAL just did the witches' dance — two steps forward, four steps backwards,” he stated.

His comments follow a decision by the Court of Appeal to overturn the 10-year prison sentence imposed on the former MASLOC boss.

Court of Appeal acquits and discharges ex-MASLOC CEO

The appellate court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against Tamakloe-Attionu beyond reasonable doubt, leading to her acquittal and discharge.

In April 2024, an Accra High Court sentenced the former MASLOC CEO to 10 years in prison with hard labour after finding her guilty of causing financial loss to the state.

She was convicted on 78 counts, including stealing, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.

The case had been one of the major corruption-related prosecutions involving officials of the previous administration, with the government’s Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative also focusing on recovering alleged misappropriated state funds.
