Two suspects remanded over gang-raping

Kumasi, April 26, GNA- Idrissu Ahmed alias "Wasiu", 20 and Anyas Issah, 22, have been remanded into police custody for an alleged gang-raping of a 22-year-old girl at Kontompo, near Anloga in Kumasi. Their two accomplices, whose names were only given as Kwabie and Macho are on the run and the Ashanti Regional Police Command has mounted a search for them.

Briefing Newsmen in Kumasi on Friday, Inspector Ibrahim Tanko, of the Public Relations Unit said the victim on the night of Friday April 18, had escorted her aunty to the Anloga Junction from Aboabo where she lives, and was returning, when she was approached by the four at gun point and dragged into a bush where they raped her in turns. He said unknown to the four, an eye witness spotted them and subsequently called for help, but they managed to escape.

Inspector Tanko said Ahmed and Issah were later arrested at their shops at Aboabo with the help of good Samaritans.

Inspector Tanko added that a formal complaint was lodged by the victim, who later went to identify the two upon their arrest by the Manhyia Divisional Police.

They were charged and arraigned before a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpe after investigation, but they pleaded not guilty and were remanded to be brought back on April 29, 2008.
