Axim, (W/R) Nov 15, GNA - Two teenagers who attacked a white couple with cutlasses and robbed them of their cameras near the Axim Beach Hotel have been jailed by the Axim Magistrate Court with varied sentences. Emmanuel Akaaku, 17, a native of Domunli, near Axim, is to serve three years at the Borstal Institute in Accra, while Patrick Aboah, 18, his fellow native, is to serve a one year term in prison. The two pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing before the court presided over by Mr. Addo Ashittey.

Their two accomplices are, however, on the run. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Charles Opoku told the court that on November four this year, at midday, a white couple lodging at the Axim Beach Hotel; Harry Simmers and his wife, Pilly Simmers, both 53 years, went to the beach for sight-seeing with their cameras. At the beach, four young men between the ages of 17 and 24 attacked them with cutlasses and threatened to slash them if they failed to release the cameras to them.

The couples surrendered and gave the cameras to them. They later informed the Hotel Manager, Jonas Tetteh, who reported the matter to the Police. The Nzema-East Municipal Police Commander, DSP Lovelace Tesutor, subsequently, arrested the convicts with the two cameras and their trial started on November nine. 15 Nov. 09
