Two unidentified persons attack student in a hotel

Kumasi, Feb.08, GNA - Two unidentified persons on Monday night attacked a 23-year-old second-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at Silicon Hotel at Weweso near KNUST and inflicted cutlass and knife wounds on him. The victim, Albert Ofori Wood was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in a critical condition. The KNUST police have therefore, mounted a search for the assailants.

Police Chief Inspector Doris Amevor, Officer in-charge of KNUST police station who briefed the Ghana News Agency on the incident, said the police received information on Monday night that a young man had been attacked at the Silicon Hotel and was seriously injured. She said police investigations had so far revealed that the victim who is a currency trafficker on campus, received a call from two people who claimed their mother had arrived from abroad and wanted to change some money therefore, the victim should meet them at room 103 of the hotel.

Police Chief Inspector Amevor said the victim therefore, went to Alabar and later to the hotel where the culprits had left a message at the reception that they were expecting one Wood, when the victim told the receptionists that he (victim) was expected at room 103, she directed him there.

She said, however, that when the victim entered the room, he saw only one man sitting on the bed and when he asked of his mother, he was told that she was not around but had given them the money to be changed. Police Chief Inspector Amevor said while talking with the man, a masked man wielding a cutlass emerged from the bathroom. She said the man on the bed also pulled out a knife and the two attacked the student resulting in a fierce struggle but they overpowered him after inflicting severe wounds on him.

The victim, Police Chief Inspector Amevor said feigned dead and fearing that someone might chance upon them, the attackers left him and fled taking away all the money on him made up of foreign currencies and 20 million cedis after they tied his legs and hands.

She said when the attackers left, the victim managed to free his legs and struggled out of the hotel room soaked in blood to a waiting taxi he brought to the hotel where the driver rushed him to KATH.
