Twum Bandoh Is Best Farmer

Mr. Agyei Twum Bandoh of the Sekyere-East District of the Ashanti Region has been crowned the National Best Farmer for this year. For his prize, Mr. Twum Bandoh will have a three bedroom built for him by the Agriculture Development Bank, ADB at a site he pleases.

The award ceremony climaxed this year’s Farmers Day celebration at Cape Coast in the Central Region. The Third Best Farmer went to 49-year-old woman from the Upper East Region, Teni Tia. She received a tractor with implements as her prize. A double cabin pick-up went to 50-year-old Vincent Kalegi from the Volta Region who was declared the Second Best Farmer.

The National Best Fisherman award went Ekow Quaitoo who also drove home a Double Cabin Pick-up. Addressing the gathering, Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama appealed to local industries to utilize local raw materials since the country has it in abundance.

According to him, it is the only way that the country’s drive towards industrialization will be realized. Vice President Mahama noted that government has already taken the first step towards rural industrialization by asking District Assemblies to identify some agriculture-based industries to fund.

According to him the country is under utilizing the vast tract of land at its disposal.
