U.K. Schools Target Ghanaian Students

As part of efforts to attract Ghanaian students to study in the U.K., the British Council is organizing the very first Education U.K Ghana Fair at the National Theatre in Accra on the 5th and 6th of November, 2004.

The Fair which aims at creating an atmosphere of an "education mall", where students, career counselors, young professionals and training managers, would know how studying and training in the U.K can enhance their capabilities and develop their skills by providing them with world-class qualifications for a competitive advantage with improved earnings.

The Fair will feature twenty-four U.K universities and colleges and thirty-five delegates from the U.K to interact with potential students and other professional bodies, and to introduce them to the excellence of U.K. education and the range of study and training opportunities.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, the Director of British Council, John Payne, disclosed that their believe is that this Programme will go a long way to contributing to the progress and development of this country, and also hopes that scholarships would be given to some qualified Ghanaian students. Adding that, after studying in the U.K, Ghanaian students should return to Ghana to impact their acquired knowledge in their various fields of endeavors for the country's development.

Schools taking part in this fair are: University of Birmingham, The City University, Concord College, Coventry University, University of Glamorgan, University of Greenwich, Hertfordshire International College of Business and Technology, University of Kent, University of Leeds, University of Leicester, Leverpool John Moores University, The University of Liverpool, London Metropolitan University, London South Bank University, Loughborough University, Northumberland University, The Nottingham Trent University, University of Portsmouth, University of Salford, University of Southampton, University of the Arts London, and University of Westminster, University of Wolverhampton.
