The Governing Council of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has appointed Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University.
A statement issued in Tamale on Monday by Dr Adam Baba Tanko Zakaria, Registrar of UDS said the appointment takes effect from October 1.
Until Prof Teye's appointment, he was the Pro-Vice Chancellor of UDS who was first appointed a lecturer in the Animal Science Department of the Faculty of Agriculture, University for Development Studies in 1996.
He was promoted to the position of senior lecturer in 2006 and in October 2011, he was promoted to the position of Associate Prof, and in July 2014, he gained the full status of Professor.
The statement indicates that Prof Teye graduated with a BSc degree in Agriculture (Animal Science), from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in 1991 and in 1996, he obtained an MSc. (Meat Science) also from KNUST.
Prof Teye obtained his PhD in Meat Science and Technology from the University of Bristol, UK in 2005 and also holds a Diploma in Modern Management and Administration, from Cambridge International College, UK in 2004.
Prior to his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Teye held several positions in the University including Head of the Department of Animal Science from 2005 to 2008, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture from 2008 to 2012 and the Dean-in-Charge of the Nyankpala Campus from 2009 to 2013 all of UDS.
Prof Teye has 58 academic research publications in refereed journals, 28 papers in referenced conference proceedings and referenced magazines, and 38 non-referenced conference proceedings and four published books.
Prof Teye takes over from Prof Haruna Yakubu whose term ends in September.
