Over the weekend, the 12th Edition of The Pan African Universities Debate Championships dubbed Akofena 2019 happened at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST). The Forensic (Debate) Society (UFS) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) took part in the championship alongside 102 other African Universities from 16 African countries.

The UFS which was spearheaded by Yaw Berko Michael participated in the two folds of the competition thus Public Speaking and the debate challenge itself. Unfortunately, the UFS could not break tie from the preliminary round. Four members were also selected from the UFS to also participate in the public speaking contest of which Miss Zoe Lois Poku attained the 3rd position in the Public Speaking Competition.

Miss Zoe Lois Poku beat seventy-five (75) other competitors from other Universities across Africa with the exception of Kwame Nkrumah University of Zambia and Covenant University, Nigeria who placed first and second respectively. This means UENR is the overall best University in Ghana when it comes to Public Speaking. The debate championship was won by KNUST, another good one for Ghana.

Consequently, Mr Opoku Kwasi Raphael (President of the Renewable Energy Engineering Students Association) who took the stance of adjudication at the competition advanced to be the Chairman of both the Semi-Finals and Finals of Public Speaking Competition amidst all other University judges.

The entire UENR populace is very proud of you for great work and sacrifices even to the extent of giving up your exams for the betterment of the School. We are very much grateful to you all for putting the spotlight on UENR and Ghana.

Ayekoo to the whole UFS team and congratulations to MISS ZOE LOIS POKU!
