The Minority in Parliament has vowed to resist any attempt by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to relocate the campus of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development from Donkorkrom to the Akyem area in the Eastern Region.

Parliament in October 2016 passed a thirty-eight million euro loan agreement between the Government of Ghana and Deutsche Bank for the construction of the University in Somanya and Donkorkrom in the Eastern Region.

However, addressing the media in Accra on Tuesday, 7 November, a former Deputy Education Minister and North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said government must explain to Ghanaians the decision for the relocation.

“I can confirm to you today that the new government has changed the location of the second campus from Donkorkrom in Afram Plains to Bunso in Kyebi.

“What is the basis for that? And why are they hiding that information from the people of Ghana? The people of Ghana need to know, the minister of education has to provide justification, why that has happened,” he said.

He added: “I am not going to make insinuations, I am not going to pass any judgment, I am not going to issue any innuendos.

"This is public information, remember that it was a loan facility that we obtained from the Brazilian company to come and execute this project and the people of Ghana are going to be called upon to pay back this loan facility. The people of Ghana must know what went into the decision to relocate.
