Winneba(C/R), Aug. 19, GNA - Authorities of University of Education, Winneba (UEW), and the International Centre for Professional Studies (ICPS) have signed an Affiliation Instrument, subjecting academic activities of ICPS to strict supervision by UEW.

Under the affiliation, UEW is responsible for awarding academic qualifications and certificates to students of ICPS, which currently runs university access courses.

Professor Akwasi Ameyaw-Asabre, Vice-Chancellor, and Mr Christopher Akwaa-Mensah, Registrar, signed on behalf of UEW, while Mr Akpaloo Wowonyo, Director and Mr Federic Ababio, Registrar, signed on behalf of ICPS at Winneba on Wednesday.

Professor Ameyaw-Asabre noted that the collaboration between the two institutions was positive to enhance the influence of UEW within the sub-region as a preferred institution for preparing functional human resource for development.

"The affiliation is the beginning of better things for the future since their partnership for the past five years because it would enhance the image of UEW globally since more affiliates to an institution proves its relevance," he said.

The Vice-Chancellor assured management of ICPS that UEW would always be available to perform its functions for the proper development of ICPS.

He expressed the hope that the collaboration would attract more institutions within and outside the country to affiliate with UEW which encouraged and appreciated such a move.

Professor Ameyaw-Asabre commended management of ICPS for its efforts, which culminated in the admission of eight foreign students to UEW to pursue PhD courses in various disciplines.

Mr Wowonyo said with its affiliation to UEW, ICPS had satisfied all requirements for securing an accreditation and would soon present the necessary documents to the National Accreditation Board to grant it such a status.

He said after the accreditation, ICPS would change its name to University College of Professional Studies, offering full-time and weekend bachelor's degree courses in Education and Business Management, among others.

Mr Wowonyo commended authorities of UEW for the partnership, saying with its direction, ICPS would continue to deliver the best of education for its students.

He pledged the commitment of staff and management of ICPS to the implementation of the Affiliation Instrument.

ICPS located at Tesano in Accra, was established in September 2000 as a language centre for Francophone students.

It also runs professional examinations of the Council for Technical Education of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
