Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu
Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has reiterated the University’s commitment to help the country in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Global Sustainable Development Goals Youth Summit, which is being held at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Prof. Oduro Owusu intimated that the University aimed at intensifying research into various matters of interest.
He further added that it was necessary to provide a platform for the youth for them to make contributions towards the achievement of the SDGs.
“The power of the youth cannot be underestimated in today’s fast paced world. There is therefore the need to provide the platform for thorough discourse in order to incite the spirit of the youth towards a better world. The University of Ghana is committed to supporting Ghana in achieving the targets set out in the SDGs through qualify teaching, research and community engagement,” Prof. Oduro Owusu said.
Also speaking at the program, Founder of Reset Global People, Kwame A. A. Opoku urged the youth to take actions towards the realization of the Goals.
“To the youth, enough with the complains, its time to do something. The world is ours, we need to put ourselves in and be safe. To the older generation, we need your support,” he said/
The Global Sustainable Development Goals Youth Summit, running on the theme ‘Act Now…And for the youth,’ is being organized under the auspices of the Institute of Applied Science and Technology of the University of Ghana.
It is in collaboration with the Advisory Unit of the Sustainable Development Goals Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana.
It aims at empowering and connecting young leaders and change makers from across the continent, to strive together to create a sustainable world free of war, oppression, exclusion and free from poverty.
The summit, which ends on Saturday November 23, started on Thursday, November 21.
The summit is expected to have over 1,000 participants from over 25 counties.
