UHAS SRC donates to Remar Orphanage

The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), on Thursday presented food items and cash to the Remar Orphanage in Ho.

The items included rice, tubers of yam, beverages, cooking oil, soft drinks and second hand clothes.

The presentation was one of many activities to mark the Second SRC Week at UHAS.

Mr Mark Hammond, SRC President said the Council thought it was important to support the needy, and therefore commissioned its Welfare Officer to find a needy group it could reach out to.

Remar, is an NGO founded in Spain in 1982, to support marginalized groups, and now with many branches across the world, including Ghana.

Oliver Dekasson, Ho Remar Home Manager, said there were 24 inmates, between the ages of six and 16 years.

He said the Remar idea was to give hope to the rejected in society.

Mr Dekasson, who said he was himself salvaged from a tortuous life as a child, said before coming into the Home, many of the inmates were roaming the streets, public transport terminals and markets.

He stressed that the Remar Home in Ho was not a rehabilitation centre, and that there were Remar Rehabilitation Centres elsewhere in Ghana.
