UMaT to start new programmes

Tarkwa, Aug. 31, GNA - The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at Tarkwa will next academic year admit students into its new Environmental Science, Social Responsibility and Safety Engineering programmes.

Additionally, preparations are underway to start a Technical English and Management Science Programmes within the next few years.

Prof Daniel Mireku-Gyimah, the Vice Chancellor, said this at the sixth matriculation of the university over the weekend.

He said the success of these programmes would depend on the construction of more lecture rooms, students' hostels, the recruitment of more qualified staff, construction of more staff houses, increase in the internet broadband, automation of the UMaT library in addition to the stocking of the library with books.

Prof. Mireku-Gyimah said out of 1,951 applications only 401 could be admitted.

He said the undergraduate student population is 1,411 out of which 260 are females, representing 18.42 percent.

Prof. Mireku-Gyimah said 18 international students enrolled in the university and this brings the total number of international students to 70.

Fifty postgraduate students were also admitted and this had increased the number to 209.
