UN Secretary General Calls On Rawlings

Former President, Jerry John Rawlings has held two separate meetings with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the outgoing Cuban Ambassador.

The meeting with Secretary-General Kofi Annan, which lasted two hours, centred around recent political developments in the country and national and international peace efforts. Efforts being made to contain the HIV/AIDS pandemic were also discussed. The meeting was held behind closed doors.

At the meeting with the Cuban Ambassador, the former President praised the Cuban Government for their commitment to the welfare of the people of Ghana, especially in the area of health and education.

He also thanked the Cuban Government and encouraged them to continue with its assistance to the people of Ghana irrespective of which government is in power. The outgoing Ambassador thanked President Rawlings for the role he played in introducing Cuban expertise on HIV/AIDS to the United States.
