President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA) María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, has lauded government for its efforts towards achieving the Agenda of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to her, President Akufo-Addo’s “policy imperatives are enviable” in implementing the universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Madam María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés was speaking at a meeting with 15-member High Level Ministerial Committee on SDGs as part of a four-day official visit.

The bilateral visit is to foster close engagement with relevant national stakeholders on issues of relevance to the Organization.

The theme of the 73rd General Assembly under her leadership is ‘Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies.”

Chairman of the committee, Professor George Gyan-Baffour stated that the SDGs are in alignment with the nation’s development initiative which includes Free Senior High School, One District One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, and Affordable Housing.

Hence Ghana’s efforts in implementing the SDGs which Prof Gyan-Baffour added will be well relatable with Ghanaians

“Our national development programme is actually tailored around the SGDs. It has a link there so each one of them are related to these SDGs. That was what we mapped out to show where the linkages are. We try to domesticate it. To put it within our own context and whatever we do, government does. It’s not out of the blues. Yes we have our own agenda but they are also related to these universal goals.”

Madam Espinosa Garcés commending government, stated that Ghana has done well on its ‘to do list’ concerning the SDGs which was established four years ago adding that “it’s incredible to see what you have done so far.”
