UNDP Supports Capacity Building Scheme

Agona Kwanyaku (Central Region), 15 Sept., The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has provided five million dollars this year towards the country's capacity building and utilisation programme. A consultant of the Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI), Mr. Aspect Caiquo, who announced this at the graduation of 32 students from the Hidden Manna Entrepreneurship and Self Employment Training Institute (HIMESET) at Agona Kwanyaku at the weekend said the government will support this amount with two billion cedis. Mr. Caiquo, who is in charge of UNDP's capacity building and utilisation programme in Ghana said the organisation has promised further assistance. He assured the graduates that every assistance will be given them to enable them to stay in their communities to work. On the behalf of UNDP, he donated an electric typewriter worth 1.9 million cedis to the institute. The proprietress of the Institute, Mrs. Joana Mensah said the first batch of 29 students who graduated from the institute in March this year are still roaming the streets without funds to set up businesses. She appealed to donor agencies, financial institutions and district assemblies to assist the trainees who have acquired skills in batik, tie and dye, soap and cosmetics making , snail and mushroom farming and beads making.
