Accra, May 27, GNA - UNESCO brought smiles to the faces of children at the Power Hour School for under-privileged children in Adringonor in Accra on Thursday when they donated more than $10,000 to be used to purchase supplies for the school.

A statement in Accra on Friday said the United Nations Spouses Association of Ghana (UNSAG) had been working with Pastor Joseph Kyei-Baah, Principal of the Power Hour School and their Financial Director Soni Valecha to assist them in building a new school.

UNSAG approached UNESCO which expressed happiness to help. They provided the group with $10,000 to purchase furnishing and supplies for the school.

UNSAG collaborated with Pastor Joseph and together they purchased many items crucial to the school's survival, including notebooks, sewing kits, new uniforms and school furniture.

At the handing over ceremony, UNESCO Acting Director and Representative, Tirso Dos Santos said he came from humble beginnings but with the help of dedicated teachers, he was able to make his way to a position where he was now able to assist children in similar circumstances.

He expressed the assurance that any one of the students at Power Hour School could also rise to positions of influence when they grew up. School officials and students expressed their gratitude for the gifts presented.

Pastor Joseph thanked God for the blessings that had been presented to the school and prayed for continued blessings as the school moved forward with its plans to put up a new building.
