Accra, Aug. 5, GNA - The United Nations High Commissioner
for Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday presented medical supplies
worth over 70,000 Euros to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The items include surgical gloves, Spinal Needles, nose mask
respirator, Shroud Kit, disinfectant granules and equipment for
detection of Hepatitis B. The presentation was in appreciation of the immense role the
hospital had played in providing healthcare to refugee patients in
emergency situations, Ms Aida Haile Mariam, UNHCR
Representative in Ghana said. She added that the organization was committed to supporting
various healthcare institutions that complemented its efforts. Ms Mariam said St. Martin de Porres Hospital at Eikwe, Apam
Catholic Hospital and the Volta Regional Office of the Ghana Health
Service had received similar assistance. Mrs Comfort Aboagye-Adu, Acting Director of Nursing, said
one of the problems that the hospital faced was the shortage of
nurses during study leave periods. "The laboratory equipment, surgical gloves and all the items
would assist the medical staff in performing efficiently at the
hospital," she said.
