UNICEF applauds Ghana’s achievement in Social Protection

The United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Deputy Director of Programmes Vidhya Ganesh has highly commended Ghana for it success in the implementation of several social protection programs which is ultimately helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She made the commendation during Ghana’s Side Event at the ongoing United Nations 54th Commission for Social Development at the United Nations Headquarters, New York.

The side event chaired by Ghana’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Martha Pobee was on the theme “ Achieving SDG 1: Reviewing Processes towards building a resilient and efficient Social Protection System in Ghana”.

Her Excellency Vidhya Ganesh noted that one best way to succeed with the SDGs is through an honest and transparent partnership and Ghana is doing just that under the leadership of the Gender Minister Nana Oye Lithur.

“I am really excited to see progress of this nature within a short period both in terms of conceptualization, policy, mechanics, tools and having a vision and moving swiftly through it. It really impressing and serves as an inspiration to many other countries not in only your part of the Region but across the world”

“I appreciate the importance of targeting and the very careful mapping of where the needs are” Her Excellency noted.

She described as phenomenal Ghana’s Government commitment to Social Protection and considering social protection interventions as doable as well as allocating funds in the national budget for it implementation.

Her Excellency Ganesh however challenged the Ministry to look beyond the initial milestone of success and work towards sustaining the various social protection programmes.

She assured the Government of Ghana of UNICEF’s highest collaboration at all times in its implementation of Social Protection Interventions.
