The Force Commander for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Lt Gen Shailesh Tinaikar had sent a commendation letter praising UNMISS GHANBATT 7 for exceptional work done in the field.
GHANBATT 7 since its inception in the UNMISS theatre in March 2019 had dominated its Area Of Responsibility (AOR) through all forms of patrols in the AOR including Bentiu, Leer and their surrounding villages and this had contributed greatly to the reduction of violence and built the confidence of the civil population.
Additionally, the Company Operating Base (COB) in Leer regularly provided security, medical care and clean drinking water to over 1,900 Internally Displaced Persons at the Temporary Protection Area.
The COB was also instrumental in the peace process by supporting the cantonment site which was a vital pre-requisite in the formation of the Unified Government in South Sudan.
GHANBATT 7 also engaged in a number of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities which were impactful and greatly appreciated. These include the rescue of a cattle epidemic at Koch through the veterinary cell.
The veterinary services also were extended to farmers in Bentiu, Leer and their surrounding villages on a daily basis. The gesture by the medical team also in organizing a medical outreach for staff and inmates of the Bentiu Central Prison was also highly valued.
GHANBATT 7 also embraced and conducted the longest extended-Long Duration Patrols (LDP) in the Unity State with excellence. Troops of GHANBATT 7 were deployed on LDP to Koch and its environs from 01-17 January 2020 during which the Force Commander paid a visit to the base and was full of praise.
In the letter, the Force Commander noted the positive effect the patrolling had created in ensuring peace in the area. Additionally, the Civil-Military Cooperation activities the unit engaged in during the period was also worthy of emulation.
