The induction was on the theme
A seven-member executive committee of the Association of Business Administration Students (ABAS) of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has been inducted into office.
They are to steer the affairs of the Association for the 2018/19 academic year.
The officers include; Mr Kwame Smith Acquah, President; Mr Paul Astu Adisenu-Doe, Vice President; Ms Alberta Awoenam Afenu, Women’s Commissioner and Mr Frank Eugene Addai, Auditor.
The rest are; Ms Dorcas Ntow, Secretary; Mr Samuel Atsu Demanya, Financial Secretary and Mr Lincoln Divine Yao Mintah Programmes and Projects Coordinator.
The induction ceremony was on the theme ‘Building Tomorrow’s Selfless Leaders from Tertiary Institutions’.
Mrs Fidelis Quansah, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, UPSA, urged the new executives to be determined, focused and as well pick up some leadership skills to be able to manage the affairs of the Association.
She said they should be firm and see themselves as servants whereby people would be able to reach out to.
Mrs Quansah, who described the Outgoing President as a vibrant leader, therefore urged the Smith led administration to build on the achievements of the old executive to ensure that the objectives and aims of ABAS were achieved.
Mr Manasey Amanor, the immediate past President of ABAS, tasked the newly sworn-in executive to be committed to the work of providing exemplary leadership for the Association.
"We have shown the good people of ABAS what we can do and on that note, we end our journey here as a team and we admonish the new administration to do more than we did," he stated.
Mr Acquah expressed gratitude to the entire students body and the Management of the Faculty for the honour done them and lauded his predecessor and his team for their good works.
He said it was an honour and great responsibility to continue with the great works of their immediate past ABAS executive and his executives would do everything within their power to ensure that the Association was lifted to another level.
“We would endeavour to be accountable and transparent to members, in all our dealings and transactions," he said.
"We want to continue hearing your ideas, getting feedback, and finding out more ways we can better serve you," he added.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Collins Agyemang -Badu, Patron of ABAS said the theme for the ceremony sought to highlight the need for students to exhibit good leadership.
He said as it was usually seen from successive governments, that some key actors once served as student leaders or having led social groups at a higher level institutions, as such, tertiary institutions served as training grounds for those who wanted to become leaders.
He said university education was constituted by a number of social groupings where some people volunteered to serve the interest of the majority, adding “this is another capacity that these executives have assumed office and we are challenging them to be selfless and dedicated to serve the majority”.
He reminded the new executive officers that the selfless training they were putting up should translate into the macro level, should they become leaders for tomorrow.
Mr Archibald Appiah, ABAS Judicial Chair, inducted the new ABAS executive committee into office.
