The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has sacked 22 of its students who hacked into the school’s computer system to manipulate their results.

A notice of dismissal from the university said it took the decision after meeting on the issue at an emergency meeting on Wednesday, 15th February, 2017 by the Academic Board.

The affected students are to leave with school campus with immediate effect.

UPSA said the dismissed students were found culpable of involvement in various “acts to undermine the university’s student information system in order to manipulate various grades in their favour.”

“The Academic Board took a serious view of this conduct considering the potential it has to damage the credibility of the University, and, therefore, further resolved that seven of the dismissed students who refused to cooperate with the investigation process should have their photographs published alongside their names to serve as deterrence.

“All the twenty-two (22) are hereby requested to submit any property of the University including student’s ID card in their possession to the Registrar without any delay.

“The decision of the University is without prejudice to any criminal investigation and prosecution being pursued by the law enforcement authorities,” the dismissal notice said.
