The US ambassador in Ghana Nancy J. Powell on 1st November hosted a reception at her residence to say thank you to a number of ministries, companies and individuals who have supported the Consular Section of the US Embassy in its work.
The ambassador named the support the embassy received last year from locally based courier services which carried ballot papers for the US elections last year as particularly crucial. She also mentioned the assistance the Ministry of Interior and the Ghana Immigration Service have been offering US citizens in Ghana.
The national carrier Ghana Airways was also singled out for praise amongst other airlines used by the embassy. The awards were so wide ranging they even included a funeral and cremation home. It was disclosed that on average of 12 Americans die in Ghana every year and special arrangements have to be made to send their ashes or bodies back to the states.
The function attracted a wide section of the diplomatic and business communities and the media.
