The United States Embassy in Ghana has revealed that the disregard for US immigration laws by some Ghanaians has made it difficult for visas to be issued to regular respectable travellers.

According to the Embassy, there are thousands of Ghanaian nationals residing in the United States of America illegality which is a violation of that country’s laws.

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson last week announced that the Trump led-government will soon deport seven thousand Ghanaians living in that country who have abused the terms of their Visas.

The affected Ghanaians, he noted, are currently at different stages of the deportation process.

“In fact about 7000 of them are currently at different stages of the deportation process. And we are not apologetic about that.”

Speaking to Kasapa News on the matter, the Director of Public Affairs of the US Embassy in Ghana, Daniel Fennell, stated that the abuse of visa terms by Ghanaians in the US has created a very bad reputation for Ghanaian travellers.

He said the decision by the US to deport over 7000 Ghanaians is not a sudden move, as the process of finding out illegal residents in that country has been ongoing for a while.

“A total of 3500 Ghanaians citizens in the US have been ordered for deportation and the same number has been entered into the process awaiting deportation.

This decision has not been reached all of a sudden, the process has been ongoing for many years. Some of these people have committed crimes that have come to the attention of the US authorities and in some cases, others came to the US as tourists and have overstayed and now have been found out. Either way, you’re not allowed to stay.”
