US Major General Calls On Defence Minister

A senior US military officer on Monday congratulated the Ghana Armed Forces on their dedication to peacekeeping missions around the world.

Major General Craig P. Rasmussen, Director of Logistics and Security Assistance, Headquarters United States European Command, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany, was speaking in Accra when he called on Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of Defence.

He noted that there was a long-standing relationship of co-operation between the armed forces of Ghana and the United States and expressed his appreciation to the Minister for the support he has enjoyed from his Ministry during his visit.

The US General held a separate meeting with Lt.-Gen Seth Obeng, Chief of Defence Staff, behind closed doors.

Maj.-Gen. Rasmussen told newsmen that they were to hold discussions to further enhance co-operation between the armed forces of the two countries.

Dr Addo-Kufuor expressed his appreciation to General Rasmussen for the assistance and support the Ghana Armed Forces have had from the US army in terms of military training, agriculture and education, among others.

Lt.-Gen. Obeng said the visit offered an opportunity to deliberate on issues in order to propel the Ghana Armed Forces ahead with support from the US.

Maj.-Gen. Rasmussen, who arrived in the country on February 24 for a four-day visit is accompanied by his wife and other senior officials of the United States European Command.
