Members of the Socialist Forum of Ghana has said that they will continue to oppose the establishment of a US military base in Ghana.

This according to the Association will be done by working closely with members of the Progressive Forces to organize mass manifestations and engage in all forms of legitimate protests until government rescinds its decision.

They argue that, the established of the military base was in flagrant disregard of Nkrumah’s warning in 1963 that “if we do not unite and combine our military resources for common defense, out of a sense of insecurity, we may be drawn into making defense pacts with foreign powers which may endanger the security of us all”.

The establishment of a military base in Ghana has thrown the country into a state of panic after the documents detailing the deal was leaked to the public.

Some Ghanaian have expressed outrage with the terms and conditions listed with many civil society groups asking government to renegotiate the terms.

Although, President Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians that the country’s sovereignty will not be jeopardized because of the transaction, many remain doubtful.

Expressing their view, in a press release to mark the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the death of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the Socialist Forum of Ghana reiterated its commitment to the ideologies of the first president of the land.

According to the group, the current neo-colonial regime in the country, has put Ghana on the path to neoliberalism which if not checked will have dire consequences for the people.
