United States authorities have reportedly seized the passport of Ken Ofori-Atta, a former Minister of Finance of Ghana, following his release from detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The reported confiscation of Ofori-Atta’s passport is believed to be part of the bail conditions set by the court for his release from ICE detention at the Caroline Detention Centre.
According to a report by JoyNews, Ofori-Atta secured bail through a private bond company for a substantial sum, but his passport was confiscated by the court.
The report, which was attributed to sources at the media house, also indicated that the former finance minister is scheduled to appear in court for his deportation hearing on Monday, April 27, 2026.

News of Ofori-Atta’s release, after he was detained by ICE over visa-related issues, was contained in a statement issued by his lawyers in Ghana, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo of Minkah Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners, on April 8, 2026.
“On April 7, 2026, Ken Ofori-Atta was released from ICE detention pursuant to a judicial order. He is home with his family.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta remains fully committed to due process in the defence of his rights as guaranteed under the Constitution and laws of the United States,” the statement said.
His lawyers further noted that Ofori-Atta and his family “remain thankful to God and all those who have offered prayers and support during this period.”
The US immigration situation involving Ofori-Atta is linked to ongoing investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
