US-based NGOs support local schools/communities

Accra, Aug. 21, GNA - A US-based female students' organisation, ROPP for Girls Incorporated has expended over 7,000 dollars to support schools and communities in Accra and Cape Coast. The items include general reading and writing materials, shoes, sandals, clothing, detergents, body lotions, tooth paste and brushes. The support, which came in the form educational materials and refurbishment of some of the schools, was provided in collaboration with the Foundation for Deprived Children in Ghana (FDCG), an Accra based NGO at separate functions.

Madam Rheta Norman, Founder and Executive Director of ROPP for Girls Incorporated said the donation formed part of its biennial educational tour of Africa, which was climaxed with a 10-day educational activities and communal services in the Central Region. She said 300 Dollars was used to facelift the Bronyibima M/A Nursery/Primary and Junior High School blocks on the Cape Coast-Takoradi road in addition to a 500-dollar donation.

The educational suppliers went the La Nativity Presby Primary in the Accra, and Ampanyin "D/A" and Bronyibima M/A Nursery/Primary and Junior High Schools in the Central Region. The communities, Nyame Bekyere (God will provide) and Ohia Ma'dwen (It pays to think) both on the Accra-Cape Coast Highway received various non educational items.

Presenting the items in Central Region at separate functions to the head teachers of the schools, Miss Emma Rodgers, Program Director of ROPP For Girls Incorporated expressed the hope that each child benefits from the items.

In Accra, Mr Delinda Baffour Yaw Fosuhene, the Project Coordinator of FDCG, who presented the items, advised the school children to always stick to their books by studying hard so that they could grow to become useful adults. Mr Foster Gish, the Executive Director of FDCG said the Foundation aims at supporting the needs of deprived children and institutions with greater emphasis on the importance of education. 21 Aug. 09
