US students tour Birim South District

Akim Oda, June 21, GNA - A group of students from the University of Georgia, Athens in the United States of America were is in the Birim South district to study and explore tourist potentials in the area. They would look out for old town settlements, make plans for their restorations and improve upon sanitation in the area to attract tourists.

The group, which was led by Professor Pratt Cassity, Director of College of Environmental and Design of the University, would initially visit Akim Oda old town to access the place.

During its one-month stay in the district, the group would also visit shrines and Aprokumasi, where the biggest tree in West Africa is located.

At a meeting with heads of decentralised departments at Akim Oda on Monday, Prof. Cassity hoped that their project would eventually lead to the boosting of tourism in the district.

Other members of the group included Mr Ian Scott, Mr David Alden, Mr Alex Nagel and Miss Lindsay Mann.

The visit is a joint initiative of Mr Frank M. Busumtwi, Chairman, Development Planning Sub-Committee of the Birim South District Assembly, who is also the Central Regional Director of the Town and Country Planning Department and the Minister of Finance and Economy Planning, Mr Yaw Osafo-Marfo, who is also the MP for Akim Oda.
