USAG asks its president to step aside

Kumasi, Aug. 12, GNA – The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) Senate has asked the association’s President Innocent Badasu to step aside for a fact-finding committee it had set up to investigate issues raised against him.

It said until otherwise determined by USAG’s highest decision-making body, all student leaders should avoid dealing with him.

This was part of a number of resolutions passed at the senate’s emergency meeting held at the Atwima Hall of the University of Education Winneba-Kumasi Campus.

The senate said the Vetting Committee put in place by Mr Badasu had also been dissolved and a new one has been formed.

It also declared that the positions of financial controller, international relations secretary and judicial committee chairman were vacant and as such nobody could consider themselves as occupying those positions.

The meeting also resolved that the bank account opened by the president at the United Bank for Africa (KNUST Branch) should be closed with immediate effect.

It asked that the treasurer should see to the opening of a new bank account for the association and inform the member institutions accordingly.

The senate also endorsed August 17 as the date for the USAG Congress and urged all aspirants to deal with the new vetting committee and the four remaining national officers, Isaac Dwobeng, General Secretary, Bright Owusu Appiah, Coordinating Secretary, Mustapha Salis, Treasurer, and Safia Sulemana, Women’s Commissioner.

The senate also asked student leaders to ignore a letter announcing an upward adjustment of USAG dues by Mr Badasu.
