Undeveloped landowners urged to keep their plots tidy

Mankessim, July 30, GNA - Mr. Vincent Biney Amissah, Assemblyman for Ahenbron-Anaafo, in Mankessim, has advise owners of undeveloped plots of land in the town to maintain them regularly to prevent such places from becoming havens for thieves, drug dealers and other criminal activities.

He said dangerous reptiles like snakes and destructive rodents also made such untidy places their habitat while other residents turned them into rubbish dumps.

Mr. Amissah, who is also the Mfantseman District Coordinator of the Ghana Red Cross Society, was speaking to the GNA at Mankessim, after leading a group of residents from his electoral area to clear weeds at the sides of the Mankesssim-Baifikrom road at the weekend. He said assembly members in the town in collaboration with personnel of the Ministry of Health would soon launch a sanitation campaign to rid the town of filth.

Mr. Amissah said the local market attracted people from all parts of the country and beyond and urged the citizens to observe good sanitation practices to maintain a clean environment. He cautioned people who defecated by the road sides to stop, since such acts created inconvenience not only for workers who weeded the area, but also passers-by.

The assemblyman reminded the people of the law which enjoined them to clean gutters close to their houses, saying that the days when people looked up to employees of the District Assembly to clean their gutters were gone.

He commended the volunteers who participated in the exercise and said it would be made a regular feature.
