An unemployed who bolted after collecting a vehicle from a businessman with the pretext of testing and buying it has appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra.
Nathaniel Yankah is said to have sold the vehicle in question to another person for Gh? 18,000. Yankah claim he had taken Gh? 7,500 as part payment.
Yankah charged with stealing has denied the offence.
The Court presided over by Mr M.E. Essandoh admitted Yankah to bail in the sum of GH? 2,000 with two sureties one to be a public servant.
He is expected to reappear on October 13.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Francis Tassan told the court the complainant Mohammed Samori resides at Adabraka, Accra, while the accused person lives at Awoshie.
Chief Inspector Tassan said during the month of June this year, Yankah approached the complainant at his garage at Adabraka and expressed interest in buying his Fiat Dukato home used car valued at GH? 18,000.
Prosecution said accused person however demanded that he should be allowed to test the vehicle and the complainant obliged but Yankah bolted with the car and he was reported to the Police.
According to the prosecutor, on September 3, this year, Yankah was however smoked out from his hideout at Awoshie and during police interrogations he admitted the offence in his statement.
Yankah disclosed that he sold the car to another person and he had only collected Gh? 7,500. He however failed to lead the police to the said buyer.
In another development, three persons are being held for stealing a motor bike at the Konkomba market.
Kwasi Adjei alias White, Danjumah Mohammed and Akwasi Abaka, are being held on the charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing.
They have pleaded not guilty and the court admitted them to bail in the sum of
Gh? 60,000.00 with three sureties each to reappear on October 20 before the court presided over by Ms Ellen V. Amoah.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Michael Jubiok said the accused persons are driver’s mate, a motor rider and a driver respectively.
On September 9, this year, the prosecutor said at about 3:00am, the Accra Regional Police Civilian Patrol Team patrolling at Konkomba market area spotted the accused persons pushing a Royal Motor Bike with registration number M14-GR-2830.
Chief Jubiok said the patrol team approached them and questioned the accused persons to know the owner of the motor bike and where they were taking it to.
One of the accused persons took to his heels and the rest were arrested.
Prosecution said the police was investigating the case.
