A Circuit court at Berekum has sentenced a 38-year-old unemployed, Obah Kwame Evans, to 12 years imprisonment for defiling a six-year old girl at Sampa in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah told the Ghana News Agency that Evans pleaded guilty to a charge of defilement and was sentenced accordingly by the court, presided over by Mr J.Y. Asebey.

He said on December 31, last year, at about 1430 hours, Evans invited the victim who was playing with her friend at a nearby house to assist him to wash his clothes.

He said the six-year old girl and her friend joined Evans in his house to wash and Evans, after some minutes, invited the victim to his room and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

ASP Tawiah said the girl, who could not bear the pain, screamed loudly for help which attracted the attention of a neighbour passing behind Evans room who went to her rescue.

He said the case was reported to the Berekum Police and a medical report was issued based on which Evans was arrested and charged with the offence.
