Unemployed jailed 48 months for stealing

A 21-year old unemployed, Maxwell Kakam, has been jailed 48 months in hard labour for stealing eight pieces of conveyer belt valued at GH¢2,868.00 by a Tarkwa Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty to stealing.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that the complainants were security personnel of Goldfields Ghana Limited, Tarkwa, while the convict, Kankam, was a resident of Teberebie in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.

Detective Amponsah said on April 20, the security personnel of the company were on routine patrol when they spotted Kakam with eight pieces of conveyer belt within the premises of the company.

He said when the convict was questioned he could not give any tangible explanation and was arrested and handed over to the Tarkwa Police.

In another development, an illegal miner who attempted to rape a commercial sex worker has been granted of GH¢ 10,000.00 bail with two sureties by a Tarkwa Circuit Court.

The accused, Richard Affum, pleaded not guilty to the offence and would re-appear before the court on May 3.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, that the complainant, Kuwoa Catherine and the accused, Affum, resided in the same vicinity at Prestea.

Inspector Amponsah said on March 3, around 0400 hours, the accused went to the brothel where Catherine operated to seek her services.

According to the prosecutor, Affum, who did not have money on him, promised to pay Catherine with a half-piece of cloth after the sex.

Therefore, Affum went home and brought the cloth but Catherine changed her mind and refused to have sex with him.

This infuriated Affum, who pushed Catherine on the bed and attempted to forcibly have sex with her, therefore, making the complainant to scream which attracted the attention of neighbours who came to her rescue.

Affum was arrested and was handed over to the police.
