Unemployed jailed for having sex with female idiot

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Emmanuel Asirifi Quarshie, unemployed, to 10 years imprisonment, for having carnal knowledge of a female idiot.

Initially, the convict pleaded not guilty, but the court found him guilty at the end of the trial, and sentenced him accordingly.

Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu that the complainant in the case was a Nurse resident at Lartebiokoshie and the mother of the victim.

Detective Inspector Atimbira said the victim is an apprentice hairdresser aged 26, and an idiot.

He said the convict, who is unemployed goes round the neighbourhood doing menial jobs for people living in the residential flats.

The prosecutor said on December 4, 2013 at about 0200 hours, the complainant returned from church and met the victim coming down from the top floor of their storey building.

He said the complainant became suspicious and questioned her where she was coming from, but the latter initially declined to respond.

“Upon further interrogation, the victim disclosed that the convict took her up-stairs and had sexual intercourse with her on the stair case,” he added.

Detective Inspector Atimbire said the case was reported to the police, and when the victim was medically examined, it was established that some unscrupulous persons in the neighbourhood took advantage of her condition, and had sex with her.
