Cape Coast, Aug. 28, GNA - But for the vigilance of the playmates of a 10-year

old girl, an 18-year-old unemployed man would have defiled her on the morning of

Saturday, July 31, when he dragged the girl into his room.

For this attempted beastly act, Kwame Peter has been jailed seven years by a circuit

court in Cape Coast, after he had pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Chief Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the

victim lives in the same vicinity with the convict at Amissakrom, near Abura Dunkwa in

the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese district of the Central Region.

He said that fateful morning at about 10:30hrs, whiles the victim was playing with her

friends, the convict beckoned her to follow him but she refused, undaunted, he pulled

and dragged her into his room, removed her panties and attempted to defile her.

Chief Inspector Agbezuhlor said the convict was however, disrupted when friends of

the victim followed up and continuously banged on his door and windows, forcing him

to release her.

He said a witness with the help of others arrested the convict and handed him over

to the police at Abakrampa, where he was detained and later admitted the offence.

The case was transferred to the Cape Coast Domestic Violence and Victim Support

Unit (DOVSU).
