Nana Opinamang III appealed to government to help in the establishment of industries
The people of Kwahu are arguably hardworking mountain-dwelling agriculturalists and famous business-oriented that forms a subset of the larger Akan ethno linguistic group living in the south-central Ghana, on the west shore of Lake Volta in the Eastern Region.
The Kwahu live specifically on part of the Kwahu sandstone plateau, with the Afram Plains to the north, Akim Abuakwa to the south, Ashanti Akim to the west, and the Volta River forming an approximate boundary to the east.
The people are very wealthy and successful traders who are the first to utilize their interior middlemen role to emerge as strong local business gurus.
Notwithstanding their orientation towards business, most of the youth in the area are unemployed, leading to increase in relocation of indigenes to other places such as Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi among others to seek for greener pastures.
Expressing his frustration over the increasing job challenges in the area, the Chief of Kwahu Obomeng, Nana Effah Opinamang III appealed to government, private businesses as well as indigenes to help in the establishment of cottage industries to avert the situation.
According to the respected chief of the area, it saddens him that, most residents have to travel to Nkawkaw and other major towns and cities to seek for job opportunities leaving the community “dead”.
In the chief’s readiness to change the situation to the advantage of the people, Nana Opinamang III stressed that, the community has dedicated a vast land to investors to help in the establishment of companies to provide jobs to the growing unemployed youth.
“We don’t have any company to provide the people with jobs so most of them go to Nkawkaw and other major towns to do businesses” he stated.
Nana Opinamang III also called on the Agriculture ministry to assist farmers with inputs and other and other machines that would help boost production of farmers as well as their living standards.
He has however urged the youth to take advantage of opportunities available in the agriculture sector instead of depending on white collar jobs, adding, ginger production and animal rearing have proven to have a ready market.
The chief has over the past two years since his installation established a school, library and also embarked on lots of other interventions to help in the development of the Kwahu Obomeng community.
Having employed over forty teachers in his school at Accra, the chief is optimistic that of Obomeng would soon increase its employees to provide employment for the people.
On this year’s Easter celebration, Nana Effah Opinamang III urged all indigenes to partake in this year’s Easter festivities and contribute their quota to the development of the community as he cautioned the public to be responsible in their activities during the season to ensure smooth celebration.
The traditional ruler advised Ghanaians to be law abiding and also support government in the development of the country devoid of political affiliations.
Meanwhile, his coronation is expected to take place on Saturday, 15th April 2017 at the palace forecourt.
