Unfortunate And Misguided Statesments Attributed To Nana Akufo Addo

Sun, 24 Jan 2010 Source: --

PRESS RELEASE

This morning on Oman FM, an Accra-based radio station, Dr. Amoako Tuffuor purporting to speak for and on behalf of nana Akufo Addo, reportedly made some unfortunate, divisive and misguided statements. Our attention has been drawn to this development and we wish to make the following comments.

1. Dr. Amoako Tuffuor confirmed that Nana Akufo Addo held a secret meeting with some selected constituency officers of the Ashanti region at which meeting he openly declared his support for some persons contesting for national and regional positions. He confirmed further that nana stated his personal dislike for some individuals. We wish to state that this action on the part of Nana Addo is divisive and unfortunate to say the least. At a time when efforts are being made to settle scores in the Ashanti Region, his move does not augur well for party cohesion and Nana by this action does not position him as a neutral and fair leader.

2. Dr. Amoako Tuffuor and Nana Akufo Addo should be told in no uncertain terms that this election is not about him, Nana Addo or Alan Kyerematen. It’s about competent, effective managers and organizer of the party to ensure a resounding victory in 2012 irrespective of who becomes flag bearer. Dr. Tuffuor and Nana must re-asses those people they claim they are supporting. They do not need to read Arthur Kennedy’s book, to know that these same people are the reasons why we lost the election.

3. Reckless and unguarded statements from so-called senior members of the party are the biggest problems of today. We advise Dr. Amoako Tuffuor and people of his kind to refrain from cheap boot-licking and propaganda and focus on the bigger picture; victory 2012.

Finally, we wish to warn that we the concern youth of the party will not sit down unconcerned, as self-seeking individuals destroy our party in the pursuit of their parochial and selfish interests. Let our leaders begin to love the Party more than themselves so that we can restore the party to its natural place in Ghanaian politics. Let’s all remember the sacrifices of J.B Danquah, J.S Dombo, Courage Quashigah, Jatoe Kaleo’s, Tolon Naa’s, Obetsebi Lamptey, R.R Amponsah and others, who thought that it was not about them but something larger than their narrow self-interest.

We invoke the spirit of the founding fathers, Kofi Abrefa Busia, J.B Danquah, S.B Dombo and co. to intervene to avert a looming danger in the party.

God Bless NPP
