Union proposes introduction of national agenda

Mr Solomon Kotei, General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), has proposed the introduction of a national agenda that should have a legal backing.

In order to stand the test of time, ideas should be collated from professional bodies, clergy and opinion leaders on how they want governments to run the national agenda, he said.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on "Ghana and Future Prosperity’’ in Accra on Friday, Mr Kotei said the collated ideas should be submitted to Parliament for debate and subsequent passage into law.

When passed, it would be impossible for governments to set it aside for political expediency, he said.

Mr Kotei said the trend of governance in Ghana had usually been centered on partisan considerations thus loosing focus or abandoning programmes that would generate wealth, especially those embarked on by previous governments.

He said this was in contrast with what happens in the developed countries where succeeding governments continued with what the previous administrations had started.
