Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister has admonished Unit Committee members to start work soon after being sworn into office regardless of the non availability of structures.
He said the committees cannot be idle just because structures for them were not ready since they cannot wait for years just because they don’t have offices.
The Minister urged the committees to look for any appropriate place in their localities to meet and work while efforts would are made to get them a permanent place.
He gave the advice after some members of the Shama District Assembly had asked how the committees could work effectively without structures.
The 85 member Unit Committee for Shama District was sworn into office by Mr Erasmus Addo Narh, Magistrate of the District Court.
The Magistrate had also sworn into office the 25 member house of the assembly with Mr Samuel Borlu, 50 year old businessman being elected as the Presiding Member.
Mr Aidoo advised the Unit Committees to work closely with the assembly and the six Area Councils to ensure the rapid growth of the district.
He urged them to eschew partisan politics as required by the tenets of act 462 of the Local Government Act and rather work in unity to bring development to the area as they would be judged by their output.
Touching on the appointment of District Chief Executives, the Minister hinted that President John Mahama would soon come out with names of the nominations and entreated the assemblies which have still not elected their Presiding Members to double up.
He noted that the delay in choosing the PM would seriously affect the work of the assemblies.
