Unit comittees have no power to enact bye-laws, NCCE official

Agona Swedru (Central Region) 28 Oct. '98 Unit committees were reminded at the weekend that they have no legitimate authority to enact bye-laws. Mr Obeng Forson, public education officer of the National Commission for Civic Education for the Agona district, said this at the inauguration of a 27-member unit committee for Dwenho electoral area in Agona Swedru. The inauguration coincided with the official handing over by the out-going assemblyman for the area, Mr Ishmael Turkson, to the new member, Mr John Awusi. Mr Forson emphasised that unit committees have been put in place to assist communities and their assemblymen to initiate development projects to better their lot.
