Unity Flag arrives in Ho

Ho, Sept. 20, GNA - Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has pledged to facilitate the resolution of conflicts in the Volta Region.

Togbe Afede who is also President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs, was speaking at a ceremony to receive the "Unity Flag Caravan" in Ho on Sunday.

He said the Flag's symbolism of a united Ghana should help to inspire efforts at conflict resolution in the region. The Flag which has gone round the country, is meant to symbolize the unity of Ghanaians as they prepare to mark the centenary of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, First President of Ghana on Monday, September 21 this year. Togbe Afede lauded Dr Nkrumah for establishing a strong bond of unity among Ghanaians, which had been tried and tested for years, to the envy of other nations.

The Flag was received at the outskirts of Ho by Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, and other dignitaries and taken through the municipality amidst singing by detachments of the security services in a procession that ended at the palace of the Agbogbomefia. Mr Amenowode in a remark said the Volta Region played an active part in the struggle for Ghana's independence as epitomized in the roles of Mr Agbeli Komla Gbedemah, a close ally of Dr Nkrumah at the time. Togbe Afede, Mr Amenowode, Colonel Cyril Necku, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, and Mr Isaac Kodobisah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, were the first to engraved their signatures on the Flag, followed by Heads of the Security Services and Departments and members of the general public.
