Akyawkrom, (Ash), Sept. 13, GNA - Professor Daniel Buor, Provost of the College of Art and Social Science (CASS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has urged Heads of Departments and Deans of Faculties in the university to liaise with industry and professional associations for effective training of manpower for the nation.
He said with the current demand and trends on the job market, there was the need for collaboration between academia and industry to plan and develop the most suitable and appropriate syllabus and new courses towards training all round graduates for the job market. Prof. Bour was speaking at a one-day workshop, organised for 12 newly appointed Deans and Heads of Departments of the College at Akyawkrom, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region on Thursday.
He charged the new officers to be fair, firm, frank and eschew favouritism and factionalism as well as avoiding taken unilateral decisions and follow the statutory administrative channels in their deliberations and activities.
Prof. Buor urged them to work hard to help uplift the image of the College and the University as a whole, protect the interest of students, especially the females against external pressures among others. Mr Albert Ocran, Registrar of the College, sensitised the officers on appointment procedures, relationship between Deans and Heads of departments in terms of administration among other issues. He said as heads of departments and faculties, there was the need for them to ensure discipline at all levels in order to ensure congenial atmosphere for teaching and learning.
Mr George Kofi Kondor, the Examination Officer for the College, called on the officers to attach importance to organisation of examinations since that was the only means to assess students. He appealed to them to collaborate with examination officials and provide equipment and facilities for the smooth organisation of examinations.
Mr Ralph Nyadu-Addo, Industrial and Professional Relations Officer of the College, called on industry to provide the College with inputs to enable it restructure courses in the College. He said plans were far advanced for an outreach programme to be embarked upon in most senior high schools across the country to sensitise students on courses offered at the College. 13 Sept 08
