The University Senior Staff says it will embark on a nationwide strike on Monday, September 16, 2024, over unmet demands.
According to them, the government has failed to address their long-standing demands for improved working conditions.
In a statement dated and issued on Friday, September 13, 2024, and signed by the Association's National Chairman, they expressed deep concerns over the government’s failure to follow earlier arrangements, even after several remonstrations and talks.
The association further stated that it has no choice but to go on strike after months of unresolved issues.
Among the many grievances is the government’s inability to implement new rates for vehicle maintenance and related allowances, which were earlier agreed upon.
The association also complained about the delay in releasing Tier Two pension deductions to fund managers, which have been withheld since January 2024.
Also, SSA-UoG raised concerns over the government’s refusal to recalculate interest on Tier Two pension funds accumulated between 2010 and 2016.
The SSA-UoG has, therefore, directed all its member institutions to comply fully with the strike order, stressing that the government's continued inaction has left university staff with no alternative but to take these drastic measures.
“I write on behalf of the national executive council to declare a TOTAL STRIKE (all members of SSA-UoG inclusive) against the government on the 16th of September 2024, for the reasons stated below:
The failure of the government to pay the new rates of the Vehicle Maintenance and related allowances even though an agreement has been reached.
"Failure of government to release our Tier Two deductions to our Fund Managers since January 2024,” the statement signed by George Ansong read.
