University of Education awards eight for hard work

Winneba (C/R), Sept. 9 GNA- The authorities of the University of Education, Winneba on Saturday honoured eight personalities including a foreigner for their contribution to the development the university at its 12th congregation at Winneba.

They were Professor Francis Kofi Allotey, formerly with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mr. Ebo Bernaman, first chairman of the University council and Professor Calestous Juma of Harvard University.

The University conferred on them its highest award of doctorate Degree, Honoris Causa.

Five others who received special awards from the university were Dr. Augustine Quarshiega, of the Social Studies Department, best lecture award, Dr. Alex Essah, from the Academic Department, best worker award senior category, Mr. Adongo Frafra, best junior worker award. Mr. Winfred Appiah, best porter award, while Ms Cecelia Mensah, from the Winneba Methodist B Primary, was awarded the best Basic Education award. They received a citation and parcels.

The university also presented President John Agyekum Kufuor, who was the guest of honour, with an award.

The presence of the President attracted a huge crowd in and around Winneba to the Liberation Square, the venue of the congregation, while others lined up the streets to catch a glimpse of the President as his convoy passed by.
